Most rowhousing projects are plagued by the same fault: disproportionately long floor plans that are devoid of natural light and lack a connection to the exterior at their centre. The Vuplex overcomes this critical issue through creative plan layouts and massing techniques.
The initial form is generated as a solid mass pulled from the site and bylaws that maximizes area. This solid is then strategically carved, cut, notched, and bored specifically for light penetration throughout the form both horizontally and vertically. A large central light well cuts through each floor filling each level of the unit with light from above. Exterior fenestration is aligned with internal circulation routes to perpetuate the dispersion of light and openness. The typical long and dark townhouse plan has been transformed into light-centric home
