The design for the pavilion is intended to play on the dichotomy between a simple form hovering over an articulated landscape. This relationship is meant to be symbolic of the contrast between a parking lot and a historic and prominent pedestrian street infused with cult culture. We wanted the pavilion to be in a sort of tension with a spectacular floating roof hovering just above an active community space; it is meant to be a different type of experience to the everyday hum drum. Hopefully it will add a little be of whimsy to users and passersby. Through this playfulness, a heightened sense of place for the site and self-awareness is created in the user. The place becomes iconic, adding to the value of it.
