HFH1 PERGOLA
Calgary Municipal Land Corporation
Cultural, Placemaking + Gallery
2021
The HFH1 Pergola was designed a to bring a new life and a sense of place back to the 110 year old Historic Fire Hall Number 1 site. The site presented numerous design challenges to overcome including a unusually complicated subsurface condition. This led to having to solve a complex structural problem in the visually cleanest way so it did not distract from the art and performances hosted.
Created to be a temporary structure and standing at 14' feet high, the pergola is capable of housing art installations and performers alike. Surrounded by picnic tables and backdropped by the historic fire hall, the HFH1 Pergola is a fantastic venue to sit back and enjoy the art and culture of Calgary.
Shoutout to Moonlight Collab for their work on the inaugural art installation.
